Jaimon, You need a price for the right boiler for you. If it is a combi ( and not a system or regular boiler) it also needs to be the right power output for your home heating requirements.
Also where is it to be fitted in your home? and is the boiler size ok to fit into the space you have allocated on the wall…. oh and also is the ventilation satisfactory.
Rather than provide a price online, and almost certainly amend it when these facts have been established, British Gas would prefer to give you an accurate quote and that requires an experienced heating installer to pay a brief, no-obligation visit to your home.
Is There any news of a combined heat and power boiler for domestic use yet? There was talk of BG bringing one out at the end of 2007.If so can you give me info? I got this info from the stockmarket sites not a BG sites!

Combined heat and power boilers will not be commercially available for a number of years yet. Notwithstanding this they will definitely change the way we heat our homes in the future and are an excellent way of generating heat.

We are in the process of buying a 4 bedroom house which has a back boiler to run the central heating and hot water. We are not in the position to obtain a quote from you yet, but need a ball park figure to know how much it is likely to cost to replace this system. The house was built in 1959. Nearest thousand would do as an estimate.

Our house has three bedrooms, one bathroom with a bath no shower and toilet on the ground floor, 2nd bathroom no bath or shower just a sink and toilet.
Heating from storage heaters which are quite old and we have an emersion heater which has broken down. We also have a coal fire with a back boiler.
We would like to have central heating and can you advise what would be best for us please.
A shower in both bathrooms would be good. The rooms upstairs are in what used to be the loft.

The best style of system for you would be a regular condensing boiler with an unvented hot water cylinder. Something like a megaflo cylinder will give you up to 40litres/min hot water delivery allowing you to run 3 or 4 hot water draw offs at any one time with mains pressure.
This would be most beneficial to yourselves as a combi boiler will only deliver to one hot water draw of at one time no matter how big the flow rate.

I have got a combi boiler in my current property and have found it very economical, but has had some problems suplying good amounts of hot water, as the water has further to travel in the new property which is going to be my best option condencing or combi

A condensing boiler is the best option, you could team it up with an unvented hot water cylinder to get mains hot water throughout the property at all times.
I have purchased a 4 bed detached with 1 bathroom (with shower)and 1 en-suite (with shower). The house currently has warm air central heating which I am looking to replace. Would a regular or combi system suit the property and a family of four?
A regular boiler with an unvented hot water cylinder would most suit this property as it gives you instantaneous mains pressure hw through the cylinder to as many draw offs as needed. A combi boiler will only deliver to one draw off at any one time.

Not all boilers convert only the ones that the manufacturers actually state they are for lpg can be used. It can therefore be hit and miss if you start to search for boilers which are capable of LPG use.

BG has quoted for a BG 330 HE condensing boiler, alledgedly made by Glow-Worm. I cannot find such model designation on the Glow-Worm website. Please could you provide a technical specification for the boiler.

We are in the process of buying a bungalow I would like to dispose of the airing cupboard which is in the kitchen taking up space but would like to keep the hot water tank could this be put in the loft and a regular condensing boiler installed
It could be done but you would have to seal the system so there would be no problems with height/head restrictions and pumping over.
With reference to the British Gas comment above,

why then does a British Gas affiliate site tell us that the Microgen stirling engine boiler will be available ‘later this year’?

We believe that the different information between the two articles is because they were written at different points in time and, whilst both were accurate at the time they were written, they differ.
The Microgen initiative is in pilot. Early in the pilot the belief was that the boiler would be offered to the public late in 2007.
The pilot is still underway and the latest view, established with the results from the pilot to date, is that British Gas will not be offering this product in 2007. It is essential that the implementation is successful before a public release and, as testing is still ongoing, British Gas is unable to guarantee a date when these boilers will be commercially available on a national scale.
Hi!
I live in a two up two down cottage and I am looking at doing a loft conversion this year. The water pressure isnt to great in the kitchen.
Once the work is done,the cottage will have two bathrooms, two bedrooms and in total there will be 8 raditors the property size is about 80sqm.
Could you please advise me what would be the better heating system and size system to have would it be either a combi boiler or condensing boiler. A friend of mine recommended the Greenstar 28i Junior

Any combi boiler is classed as a one tap appliance - it will also only work dependent upon the water pressure coming into your property. If you have low water pressure the boiler would not fire - British Gas believe that you would benefit from a regular condensing boiler. You will see examples of these on the site
My mother has today been quoted £3000 for a boiler replacement that as yet does not need replacing,are there any sensible deals arround for an 82 year lady living on her own,the quote WAS from British Gas and they asked her how much she could afford? there certainly arn’t many people of that age who can afford that kind of money are there any grants available if it did go completely or would she die of cold.

I currently have a combi boiler in the basement and the flue rises out of the top and vents through an outside wall in the garden above a drain. So this is only a couple of feet above the ground. Now I am looking to have a new boiler and have been informed that the combi boilers now have a flue at the bottom of the boiler so could not be placed in a basement. Is this the case or can a find a model that will fit below ground level.
Combi boilers have a condensate waste which comes out of the bottom of the boiler that must vent to outside, but it could have a pump fitted to it to get it above ground level and out. The positioning of the boiler flue has not materially changed.

The answer depends upon your current needs which may have changed since the boiler you mention was first installed.
If you live in a bungalow or a flat and have no loft space the typical replacement would be a combi boiler but that depends on the number of hot water taps you could have on simultaneously. The size of the boiler will be determined from a heat loss calculation for your home which cannot be done via an email.

I’m looking to extend our detached house to a four bedroom with one large bathroom. I currently have a myson orion 40B with a hot water tank. Installed is a pump activated power shower. There are three of us in the family and all have a shower every morning. While getting the extension i would like to fit a Baxi combi duo tec 40HE and have a separate shower in the bathroom. Do you think i would lose much power on the shower with the combi boiler, i know by the specifications it is 16 L/M flow rate @35 degrees.
For exact details of the difference in flow rate you will need to contact the manufacturers direct.
Before you do this you should note that you cannot run a power shower off a combi boiler, the hot water demand of a power shower does not match the boiler production rate. Combi boilers deliver hot water at cold water mains pressure to a shower so you should not need the power shower pump.
i’ve just bought a house that has a combi boiler in a bedroom i want to know if it can be moved downstairs the only snag is the room has a flat roof would that be ok? or can it go in a shower room ??
On moving the boiler from the bedroom to a room with a flat roof you would have to ensure all required clearances are adhered to and hence this must be part of the installation inspection and plan.
The boiler cannot go into a shower room as a boiler has 240 volts passing through it and the damp atmosphere causes chaos with the printed circuit boards meaning the boiler would have a short operating life.

I’m looking to have my combi boiler updated.
The present one is a Saunier Duval Thelia 623 and is fitted to an outside wall. However the dimensions of the present location are only 100 cm high (though there is clearance above)by 80 cm width with lots of clearance in front.Is there a condensing combi boiler that could fit that space and what would be the cost including installation?

There are a few condensing combis that would fit, the smallest being the Worcester junior range.

I will shortly be contacting you for a quote to replace my old boiler, most probably with a combi condensing type.
This would allow removal of the hot water cylinder tank and cold water feed tank.
To help me to identify sites for a new combi type boiler could you please advise me if this has to be mounted on an outside wall or could it be placed in the airing cupboard in the centre of the house?

It can be installed in the airing cupboard in the centre of the house as long as the wall it is attached to is a good strength wall that can take the weight. There also needs to be a direct route for the exhaust flue. If it was fitted in an out-house it could also have the external controls fitted inside the main property and connected out to the outhouse(our surveyor will confirm how this is done).
